You're uneasy from page one all the way through to the end of this 400+ page collection. Lovesickness is a great addition to any Ito fan’s collection. Junji Ito being both transgressive and funny is a good time, and Strange Hizikuri Siblings definitely isn’t filler to pad out Lovesickness and still features horror elements like creepy eyes and facial expressions and a haunted house chase sequence. Junji Ito is at his best when he’s pulling apart aspects of everyday life and revealing how unsettling it can be. I'd compare it to a roller coaster, but there's rarely a down moment. While I wouldn’t call any of the stories in Lovesickness a favorite of mine, they’re all effective. It starts out strong and only gets more frightening as it goes on. Ito is in complete control of the scares in Lovesickness. Ito plunges the knife in with a shocking moment and then continues to twist it with each chapter, sending the story into unparalleled levels of terror. Lovesickness is another solid entry in the creator's library. Is Ryusuke connected to these deaths?
